Don&#8217;t ask people how they would do something, Ask them about a time they have already done it. Don&#8217;t allow people to tell you hypothetical stories, make them share real experience.<\/p>\n<p>Coachability, emotional intelligence, motivation and temperament are more predictive of a new hires\u2019 success or failure than technical skills are.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Positive Attitudes of High Performers:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 They take ownership of problems<br \/>\n\u2022 They\u2019re highly collaborative<br \/>\n\u2022 They aren\u2019t afraid to make mistakes<br \/>\n\u2022 They meet commitments<br \/>\n\u2022 They\u2019re empathetic towards customers\u2019 and colleagues\u2019 needs<\/p>\n<p><strong>Negative Attitudes of Poor Performers:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 They always find the negative<br \/>\n\u2022 They gossip<br \/>\n\u2022 They respond to feedback with an argument<br \/>\n\u2022 They only do the bare minimum expected of them<br \/>\n\u2022 They get overwhelmed by multiple demands and priorities<br \/>\n\u2022 They always find someone else to blame for their mistakes<br \/>\n\u2022 They\u2019re unwilling to leave their comfort zone<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Based on 5,247 interviews Hiring for Attitude, the top five reasons why new hires failed are: 1.
