According to The Office for National Statistics (ONS) a quarter of young people between the ages of 20 and 34 in the UK were living with a parent or parents.
This means that the number of 20 to 34-year-olds living with their parents has increased by 669,000 (or 25%) since 1996. This is despite the number of people in the population aged 20 to 34 being largely the same in 1996 and 2013 after a fall between 2002 and 2006.
This rise in the number of young adults living with their parents has been recognised by academic research. Read more
