Finding a suitable career and entering into the world of work can be a daunting task, especially when you have just left school, college or university. It is extremely common to feel overwhelmed by the prospect of finding a suitable career. From not knowing what you want to do to not having enough experience when trying to get a job are similar obstacles we all face.
Here are some obstacles that creates difficulty in finding a job:
Experience
A lack of experience is considered to be one of the main reasons young people do not find employment.
How can you gain experience when you can’t get the job in the first place? This is the reality of many young people, but options such as volunteering, internships, apprenticeships or even further studying can be the solution.
Try to stand out and set yourself apart from the many applicants applying for the same job.
Confidence
Often your ability to successfully apply for a job lies in how confident you are. 
In particular, you may suffer a set back in your job search, which will in turn affect your confidence. However, practice makes perfect. You need to put yourself out there – completely. Don’t consider not getting a job as a failure.
Try to optimise your CV by gaining more experience by volunteering, internships, apprenticeships or even further studying.
Attending more interviews and completing more application forms will only give you more experience to perfect your interview and application technique.
Uncertainty
When you are young, you may not know what you want to do for the rest of your life. You may still be trying to figure out what interests you and what opportunities are available. If this applies to you, the first thing to remember is that there are many people who feel the same as you. A good starting point for those of you in this situation is to do your research.
Consider all of the information when looking for the job that you want so that you are well prepared. You may find something that interests you and leads to progression in that field or in another area.
Finding a job has become more difficult in recent years but there are ways to gain skills for the workplace, improve your confidence and become clearer about the opportunities available to you. This is not a definitive list of barriers to work but it’s a start, particularly if you have been finding it hard to find employment.
The unemployment figures may take some time to change but you can work on your approach now.
