BENEFIT claims from young people in Weston out of work, has fallen by more than a quarter in the past year. The good news was matched by a 30 per cent drop in the number of people who have been unemployed long-term.
Figures show the number of youngsters claiming Jobseekers’ Allowance had fallen by 27 per cent this year.
Weston MP John Penrose said: “This is brilliant news which shows that Weston’s economy is picking up and creating jobs for local people.
“There’s still plenty more to do, of course. Local jobs club are pretty busy helping local jobseekers find work, for example. But this is definitely a step in the right direction, and will give the people of Weston the self-confidence and independence which comes with earning your own wage.” Source: The WestonMercury
