Urgent action is needed to deal with the UK’s digital skills crisis, warn MPs, or it risks damaging the country’s productivity and competitiveness. It is thought 12.6 million adults lack basic digital skills, while 5.8 million have never used the internet at all. “Stubborn digital exclusion and systemic problems” with education and training need to be urgently addressed, the report said. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has reported that young people are facing less financial pressure now as compared to 2009-2010. During the financial crisis 2009-2010 young people were the worst affected. Although the general rate of unemployment was 8.5% in the 18-24 age group it was a massive 20% during 2009 -2010. The Tackling Youth Violence Network meetings are a space for youth work professionals who are facing violence amongst the young people they work with to build support and thinking on how to tackle this.
