According to the Association of Graduate Recruiters (AGR), numbers of vacancies will rise 10.2% in 2014. The rise reflects growing business confidence and economic growth, the association says. Big growth sectors include IT and telecommunications, energy and banking, but a rise in public sector recruitment is also predicted. According to research from professional services firm Ernst & Young (EY), 54% of parents are in the dark about their children’s career options at 18. The Employment Minister Esther McVey said British young people are less well prepared for careers than foreign migrants and need to take low-paid jobs in coffee shops to learn basics such as punctuality.
