According to a study by The Joseph Rowntree Foundation, 1.7 million people aged 16 to 24 are in poverty compared with 1.4 million people aged over 65. There has been a 16 per cent increase in the number of direct sellers aged under 25 last year compared to 2013 figures. Under-25s now make up 22 per cent of the industry, meaning of the 400,000 direct sellers in the UK, more than 88,000 are now under the age of 25.
