Government figures show the number of people sleeping rough in England has increased by a third since 2010. In London alone, 6,437 people slept rough during 2012-13, a 62% rise in two years. According to a survey by the UCU lecturers’ union, third of young unemployed rarely leave house. The survey of youngsters not in education, employment or training – so-called Neets – found a third had experienced depression and more than a third “rarely left the house”.
